With a gold medal, comes the birth of a new American hero in WWE? When people think of Olympic wrestling, they think about The Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle. Kurt won the freestyle wrestling gold in the 1996 Summer Olympics. He accomplished this with a “broken freaking neck.” 3 years later, Kurt would debut at the 1999 Survivor Series. He was a natural in the ring and had great charisma. Those things along with his 3 I’s: Intensity, Integrity, and Intelligence, set Kurt Angle up for a Hall of Fame career. As of last week, there are 2 other gold medalists who are also WWE prospects. The one that I personally would like to see in the squared circle is Tamyra Mensah-Stock.
Stock is the first black woman in the U.S. to win gold, so in a time where women are achieving firsts in the WWE, she could use this to put herself over. If she makes it soon, I would have her work closely with someone that would be able to elevate her. Someone that would be able to be a mouthpiece for her until her promo skills were sharpened. Here are 3 wrestlers that I would book Tamyra with if/when she starts her WWE wrestling career.
Shelton may not be a name that comes up in the greatest talker discussion, but his in-ring work speaks volumes. He’s won numerous championships throughout his illustrious career, and I believe he could mentor Tamyra to do the same. Pairing the 2 of them will allow for Shelton to get some TV time, showing people why he is in fact “The Gold Standard.” After all, look what his early coaching did for Brock Lesnar.
Since his return to WWE, MVP has been in rare form as a manager. He took the failing careers of Bobby Lashley, Cedric Alexander, and the aforementioned Shelton Benjamin and strapped them on a rocket. The Hurt Business was by far the best thing that came out of the Thunderdome Era. He led Bobby Lashley to his first WWE Championship on March 1 of this year, and to say that he has been dominant, would be an understatement. With MVP as a mouthpiece for Tamyra, I feel like she could dominate the women’s division.
Chad Gable is a former Tag Team Champion with Jason Jordan, and is currently paired with Otis. Gable’s current crusade to spread the gospel of the Alpha Academy has been great. He’s a mat technician that despite his small stature, is a major threat inside of the ring. He has brought Otis from comedy act to devastating monster in the course of a few months. Imagine if Tamyra was trained/coached by Chad Gable. The Alpha Academy would be a threatening, but entertaining group with the right booking.
Those are the 3 superstars that I would personally book Tamyra Mensah-Stock with. I would like to see her use the cross-face chicken wing as a finisher and just dismantle all of her opponents in her pursuit of the Raw or Smackdown Women’s Championship.
Again, these are just my opinions, and if you have any of your own, drop a comment down below.
