This picture shows the official engine of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster. From what we can see, this skater looks like Tony Hawk catching massive air on a skating ramp. According to the official “Tony Hawk’s™ Pro Skater™ 1 + 2.” website, Activision Publishing Inc. states that “this image, as well as the franchise, belongs to Activision Publishing Inc., Vicarious Visions, and Tony Hawk, Inc.” (18). These productions in addition to individuals are the reason why this game is being made. This image is on PlayStation’s official Blog under the article, “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”. This article is written by James Mattone who is the Lead Writer for Activision Games Blog.
In This Day in Age, It’s Common for Remaster Versions
The concept of the word remaster has become a staple name. Many forms of media have at one point or another done a remaster version. Older films like The Wizard of Oz and television shows like I Love Lucy have had several remaster versions. Classic pieces of art are reserve to show to the next generation. While films in addition to television shows have gotten remaster versions, so too have videogames. There are countless number of games that have stood the stand of time. Games that have change the structure of what a videogame should be. As such, certain games receive a remaster version. To show the next generation how these certain games have impact the videogame industry. When a videogame company reveals a remaster of a classic, many gamer’s excitement becomes high. Since we can play beloved games on a new system.
Some videogames are slowly getting remaster versions. One of these games is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. In the late 90s to early 2000s, these games made their staple in the gaming industry. Before this, there hadn’t been this well receive sport games before. The name Tony Hawk was everywhere and most people who grew up during this time remember this. Over the years, the series has gone downhill stirring away from the original games. Then on May 12, 2020, Activision Publishing Inc., reveals the announcement trailer and news article about a remaster version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. Is this the remaster that fans have been waiting for? Let’s find out together. In this news article, we’re evaluating the new trailer and news article for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 to see what is coming to this remaster version.

Firstly, we should look at the graphics. At first glance, this remaster looks phenomenal as most remasters do. According to the official PlayStation.Blog website under the article “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”, James Mattone who is the leader writer at Activision’s Games Blog explains that “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 made its staple into the PlayStation scene in 1999 with its new 3D graphics” (2). Tony Hawk’s: Pro Skater 1 and 2 reflect the graphics of the time. In fact, this was one of the more popular series in PlayStation. Personally, I can remember when this game came out. Everyone was talking about how good the graphics were when this game came out. I do not doubt that some of us remember this game at sleepovers and meetups after school. With that said, this game is showing its age.
This is common with many games. As times change, older games begin to show their age. Especially as technology grows and improves. Age has not been pretty for both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. With that said, the new remaster coming out looks phenomenal. According to the official PlayStation YouTube channel under the video Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 – Announcement Trailer | PS4”, PlayStation expresses the fact that “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will be release with up to date graphics” (0:20 – 0:22). This means that this new classic remaster is getting the best up to date graphics. This is incredibly exciting for players of this game. Particularly for those who are fans of these games. Seeing this beloved game getting the remaster it desperately needs. While this game is also getting a remaster, some elements are returning.
The Original Soundtrack Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is Returning for Fun Times Ahead
— Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 (@TonyHawkTheGame) May 15, 2020
One of the exciting announcements about this remaster is the returning features. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 had some incredibly fun features. According to the official PlayStation.Blog website under the article “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”, James Mattone expresses the fact that “this remaster is returning elements that made these games so enjoyable including music, stages, and characters” (3-4). This confirmation means that moments that made these games so special are returning. One of the things that is returning is the music. This franchise has some of the most head-bopping music library in videogames. Especially when it comes to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. The fact the music from the original games is coming back to this remake is beyond exciting. The music genre options change from hip-hop, rock, pop, and metal.
According to the official PlayStation YouTube channel under the video Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 – Announcement Trailer | PS4”, PlayStation shows that “some of the artists returning include Lagwagon, Bad Religion, Goldfinger, Dead Kennedys, Papa Roach, and many more” (0:47 – 0:49). Bringing the original music will bring more people back to this franchise. Like many other remaster games that have been made in the past. Being able to bring the head-bopping music into this game will bring incredibly exciting. While the music is returning, the original stages are making their way onto this remaster as well.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 Elaborate Stages are Making a Comeback in this Remaster
— Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 (@TonyHawkTheGame) May 12, 2020
According to what we see in the announcement trailer, the original stages are making an epic return. Now, these stages are from both games. One of the more appealing parts of these games is the stages. From what we can see in the announcement trailer, several of these stages include the warehouse to a city. Undoubtedly, we’re going to be getting more stages than what we see in the announcement trailer. Especially since these games had some incredibly unique stage designs. The main reason why the stages are so memorable is the missions in these games. Within each stage, there’s a series of missions that players are supposed to do. As such, the missions are made throughout the entire stage. So, players have to explore the stages to finish missions. Like finding the infamous tapes and the word S-K-A-T-E for instance.
One of the exciting elements of this new game is that the stages are in 4K quality. Being able to see beloved stages and memories in the highest quality will raise fans excitement incredibly high. With the stages making a full appearance, so too are the characters returning with more tricks than normal.
Characters are Returning for Another Trick
Another factor that is returning is the characters. Without a doubt, many players will remember the characters in the original game. The characters are professional skateboarders. According to the official PlayStation.Blog website under the article “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”, James Mattone conveys that “some of the characters coming back into this game include Tony Hawk, Eric Koston, Jamie Thomas, and many more” (3). Safe to say, all of the original characters from both games are going to be making their appearance. With the characters returning, their signature move is returning too. With each character, they each have a move that made them well known. Like Tony Hawk with his famous move, the 900.
From what we can see in the trailer, the characters look semi-realistic. I say semi-realistic because the character models aren’t cartoonish while not hyper-realistic. Regardless, the models look phenomenal as compare to the original. One of the things that makes me wonder is if this game is going to include character customization or character building. Since in these games, players could use points to make their character’s skills better. For now, we’re going to have to wait to see if character customization and building will make another appearance. While this game is having some returning aspects, there’s going to be new elements thrown.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is Receiving New Additions to Spice Up Gameplay
This game may be showing some old tricks. However, this remaster has some new tricks up their sleeves. For instance, this game will have new moves for characters. According to the official PlayStation.Blog website under the article “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”, James Mattone reveals that “since time has passed, we want to include new moves the skaters have done over the years” (3). This will give massive variety to already existing characters. This means players will have to play this game to see what moves this game includes. While characters are given new moves, Create-a-Park is back in full force.
According to the official PlayStation.Blog website under the article “Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2”, James Mattone announces that “Create-a-Park is back for players to create the craziest parks ever” (5). Players will be able to create the craziest and action pack parks imaginable. At the moment, we don’t have a lot of information regarding what specifically is coming to the Create-a-Park. With that said, there’s going to be significant improvements. Players will be able to share their parks with other players. Now, there hasn’t been an announcement if players can look at parks across platforms. Since this game is coming out on PC, X-Box One, and PlayStation 4. Honestly, that would be a good idea to have so that others can see the parks being made. With the new elements coming into this game, this remaster will be one to remember.
