The Sinister Sixers Are Coming

With Spider-man’s new movie “No Way Home” on the way, there has been a lot of talk about the villains. The reason being is because with so many different villains it’s rumored that we might get The Sinister Six. What is The Sinister Six and who is it comprised of? More importantly, why were they created to begin with? In this post I will answer all of these questions so you are all set for when the movies premiere.

What Is The Sinister Six?

The Sinister Six was a group of villains who banded together to take down Spider-Man. This broke ground because never before in comic book history did you have villains come together like this. Before you think about it let’s eliminate the thoughts of The Legion Of Doom and The Rogues Gallery. These two factions came much later on which makes The Sinister Six the first of it’s kind to exist. How did they come to be in the first place?

WHO Are The Sinister Six?

The Sinister Six started with Dr. Octopus who wanted Spider-Man taken down. Realizing that he couldn’t do it alone, he sent out a message to every villain known to the city. Naturally not everyone was able or wanted to partner up except for a small few. The original six was comprised of Dr. Octopus, Vulcan, Kraven The Hunter, Electro, and Mysterio.

Is That Everyone?

With comic books, one thing to understand is that when dealing with groups, members will constantly change. There has been various different iterations of The Avengers, X-Men, The Defenders etc. The Sinister Six is no different especially given so many enemies Spider-Man has made. So who else was apart of this infamous group? Aside from the core members you had Demonic Hobgoblin who came about when Kraven Died. There’s also Gog who came when the group tried to take out Dr. Octopus after he betrayed them.

The Sinister… Seven?

The group this time led by Hobgoblin was put together to kill Kaine for killing Dr. Octopus and The Grim Hunter (one of Kraven’s sons). This group was comprised of The Beetle, Scorpion, Mysterio, Electro, The Shocker and Vulture. They were unsuccessful in killing Kaine when Spider-Man stepped in and helped fend them off.

The Sinister Six: Sandman Edition

In order to seek revenge against Dr. Octopus for being turned into glass, Sandman leads his own Sinister Six. This group included some old faces like Electro and Vulture. The new faces include a second Mysterio (after the first one committed suicide). Kraven’s other son took up the name and mantle. Finally, we have Venom as the last member.

The Sinister… Twelve? Really?

Yes, really. While imprisoned, Norman Osbourne sends the word to villains who all bare a grudge against Spider-Man to assemble and take him out. They also happened to be funded by him as well. With Osbourne imprisoned, the position of leader fell to Scorpion as he lead an entirely new cast of evil doers. Vulture, Sandman, Electro, the Chameleon, the Lizard, Hydro-Man, the Shocker, Hammerhead, Boomerang, and Tombstone.

Sinister Six: Civil War Edition

During the events of Civil War yet another Sinister Six lineup was formed. This time, it consisted of Dr. Octopus, Grim Reaper, Lizard, Shocker, Trapster and Vulture. Off panel, they were stopped by Captain America and his secret Avengers. They were secret due to being in hiding because of the war and Super Hero Registration Act.

Big Time Edition

Spider-Man Big Time was a major turning point for Peter Parker. The reason being is traditionally he has struggled financially with being a photographer but in Big Time that all changed. He became rewarded and celebrated for his work which resulted in substantial wealth and resources. All of that aside, Spider-Man found the Sinister Six which consisted of Dr. Octopus, the Chameleon, Electro, Rhino, Sandman and Mysterio on an island. While engaged in combat Spider-Man realized that only two out of the six (Chameleon and Mysterio) members are actually there. It was all a distraction so Dr. Octopus could look for technology plans.

Marvel NOW Edition

Coming off the heels of Spider-Man Big Time is Superior Spider-Man. In this story-line Dr. Octopus’s mind was inside of Spider-Man’s body. While inside his body he collides with the new Sinister Six. This time the members are Boomerang, Shocker, Overdrive, The Speed Demon, The Living Brain and the female Beetle.

The Superior Six

Out of all of the Iterations, this one has the best name in my opinion. Still in the Superior Spider-Man story arc Dr. Octopus has deleted Peter Parker’s memories and has set up the raft (a prison for super villains) as his lab. His plan was to gather the Sinister Six members and keep them in his underwater lab with the hopes of turning them into the Superior Six. In this iteration it’s Sandman, Electro, the Chameleon, and Vulture. The last member was Mysterion. This is a gentleman who dressed up like Mysterio courtesy of Hobgoblin to rob a bank.

Sinister…Sixty-Six?

Apparently Spider-Man was too much for the original six so they called sixty other people to come help out. No, I’m kidding, that’s not how or why this happened. What really took place was Mojo and Chameleon abducted Spider-Man and some X-Men students to star in a show where they must fight the Sinister Sixty-six. Now if you think I am going to run down all of their names you are definitely on one. One of the reasons I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to is because not all of the members were seen. Some of the people included are Carnage, Dr. Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Kraven, Kingpin, Sandman, Scorpion, Shocker, Vulture and many… many more.

Swarm Edition

In the eighth iteration of the Sinister Six the group is led by Swarm. The members this time include 8-Ball, Delilah, Killer Shrike, Squid and the third Melter. Spider-Man and Jean Grey’s students fought them off. Once Swarm was defeated by Hellion the rest gave up and surrendered.

Iron Spider Edition

Miles Morales’s uncle Aaron Davis created his version of the infamous faction once he obtained a version of the Iron Spider armor. The members included Bombshell, Electro (the Francine Frye version), Hobgoblin (the Robert Kingsley version), Sandman and the Spot. They were put together to steal a S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier.

Sinister Edition

The members for this Sinister Six are all of the OG’s. They were formed because of a centipede that went into Dr. Octopus’s ear from Kindred. It told him to get the group back together so they could take out Spider-Man. In the end Dr. Octopus hesitated with killing Spider-Man. Him fighting off the mind manipulation that Kindred had on him long enough for Spider-Man to take them down was all the time that was needed.

So there you have it. Every single last iteration of the Sinister Six. You can now watch Spider-Man: No Way Home in peace. Let us know your favorite iteration and characters.
