The Oscars is an Award Show for Celebrating Outstanding Performances

It’s no surprise that actors and actresses play a huge role in the film industry.  Without them, there would essentially be no film.  These individuals bring their skills  to portray memorable characters in the story.  Some actors and actresses have so much talent that they make iconic characters audiences will remember.  For example, some iconic characters that instantly come to mind include Don Vito Corleone, Dorothy Gale, and Marty McFly to name just a few.  With that said, actors and actresses put countless number of hours to ensure there acting is what the film crews need.  With so many films that come out in a year, there are award shows to highlight on the ones that stand out.  None more so is true with The Oscars.  On February 9, 2020, The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences presents awards to the films that have made an impact the previous year.

None more so is truer than the acting categories.  In fact, the last two awards of the night revolve around the Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role.   This year at The Oscars, four actors and actresses surpasses the rest of the acting community.  Let’s see why each of these actors as well as actresses deserve the pristine award of an Oscar.  In this review, we’re looking at The Oscars by analyzing the winners in the acting category to see why each winner deserves their awards.

The Oscars Gives the Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role to Joker

The award for Best Actor in a Leading Role goes to the controversial film, Joker.  For many, Joker was a very controversial film.  This can be partially due to the fact that this film discusses the origin story of the Joker.  As a result, this film isn’t a happy, beat them up typical superhero movie.  Joker is no Avengers by any means.  However, the one thing that sticks out in this film is Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker.  By no means is this role easy.  In fact, this iconic role has put an impact on some actors in other Batman adaptations.  With that said, Joaquin Phoenix absolutely deserves the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.  Being able to portray a villain as iconic as The Joker effectively shows how much of an impact he had.

Despite the controversy that this film receives, the fact that The Academy recognizes the power of Joker is something to be said.  The idea that a film can be controversial but at the same time make a powerful statement.  Clearly, The Academy loves Joker even to the dismay of audiences.  So much to the point that The Academy nominates Joker for ten out of the twenty-four categories.  With Joaquin Phoenix, his role is so in dept that we witness the painful origin story of one of the most iconic characters in the Batman franchise.  Joaquin Phoenix deserves this award for showing film goers to dive deep into the psyche of a character.  Just like the next winner for Best Actresses in a Leading Role with Judy.

The Academy Celebrates the Life of Judy Garland with the Award for Judy in Best Actress in a Leading Role

The actress Renée Zellweger won The Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Judy.  In Judy, Renée Zellweger plays one of the most recognizable actresses in Hollywood, Judy Garland.  For those who are unaware, Judy Garland is the actress who did the iconic role of Dorothy Gale in 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz.  The way Renée shows herself into this role shows how powerful of an actress she is.  Much like Joaquin Phoenix as his role as The Joker.  Most everyone knows Judy Garland from The Wizard of Oz.  It takes a strong actress to play such an iconic person in the history of film.  Not saying that the other actresses in this category didn’t do their role effectively.  In fact, the amount of talent this category shows the diversity of the films for 2019.

With that said, Renée Zellweger portrays the struggles of Judy Garland.  Undoubtedly, this film will bring more people to learn the complete story of Judy Garland.  This role Renée portrays shows that actors as well as actresses digging deep to portray characters. In contrast to simply playing a role for a film.  Many actors and actresses have done this especially within the 2019 film year.  Like the leading roles, the supporting roles express realistic character to film audiences.

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood Receives Recognition at The Oscars for Best Actor in a Supporting Role

At The Oscars this year, Brad Pitt wins The Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.  Brad Pitt won his role in The Academy Award winner film, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.  While this role isn’t the leading role, a supporting role is just as significant.  With that said, Brad Pitt plays as a stunt double to Leonardo DiCaprio’s character.  In fact, in this film, Cliff Booth is a completely relatable character.  He’s trying to be a lady’s man while at the same time having issues being taken seriously as a stunt man.  One of the things that Hollywood hasn’t account for its action actors and actresses stunt doubles.  On ABC’s official YouTube page under the video name Brad Pitt Accepts the Oscar for Supporting Actor, Brad Pitt says that “now is the time The Academy acknowledges the stunt actors and actresses” (1:341:44).
