The Legend of Zelda Franchise is Beloved By So Many Gamers

It should be no surprise that The Legend of Zelda franchise is a beloved series.  For some, The Legend of Zelda were many gamers first introduction to role-playing games.  On the other hand, many gamers have experience of playing The Legend of Zelda games.  Such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to name a few.  Regardless, this franchise has a generation of different gamers.  Some young while others have a few more years.  In fact, this franchise is so well known that The Legend of Zelda is often a game gamers think of Nintendo.  Over the years, The Legend of Zelda popularity has sore to new heights with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Originally on the Wii U and eventually the Nintendo Switch, this game expands this franchise to new ends never seen before.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a game-changer for Nintendo.   Since then, there hasn’t been much news about a mainstream game.  Then, on June 11, 2019, Nintendo drops a huge bombshell for fans.  Nintendo’s final announcement was that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is in development.  Fans lost their minds at the fact that this franchise is getting a sequel.  In fact, we did a review on this exact Nintendo Direct.  Yet, there hasn’t been any news about this new game.  Then September 8, 2020, Nintendo suddenly drops a new mini direct.  What does this direct have in store for The Legend of Zelda? Let’s find out.  In this news article, we’re going to be examining what this new The Legend of Zelda mini direct has in store for this beloved franchise.

Nintendo Reveals that The Legend of Zelda Breathe of the Wild 2 is Still in the Works

This mini direct starts out with Eiji Aonuma talking.  For those who are unaware, Eiji Aonuma is the Producer of The Legend of Zelda series.   Immediately, he goes into news regarding The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.  At first, this is incredibly exciting. Since previously I stated that the last announcement hadn’t been until June of 2019. Which has been an entire year without hearing any news or any development.  However, Eiji Aonuma does explain something in this mini direct.  According to Nintendo’s official YouTube page, under the video Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – A Story 100 Years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Eiji Aonuma explains that “we need more time before an official announcement is made” (0:380:50).  While disappointing, this means that the crew working extremely hard on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

Honestly, this is how it should be right now.  This sequel is from a beloved game. So, being able to give this creative team time to create the best game imaginable is crucial.  Also, there’s still a global pandemic happens.  As such, projects are going to take longer to make.  With that said, this is the perfect opportunity to make sure that this project is better than the original.  So, more news regarding Breath of the Wild 2 will have to wait until further notice.  However, Aonuma reveals a new game within the Hyrule Warriors series name Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

In the Meantime, A New Game in the Hyrule Warrior’s series is Coming Name Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

While Breath of the Wild’s sequel is in development, a new game name Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is coming to the Nintendo Switch.  For those who are unaware, Hyrule Warriors is a combination game of two franchises.  These two franchises are Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda.  What makes this series so popular is it focuses more on The Legend of Zelda lore than Dynasty Warriors.  From what we see in this trailer, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity looks like a step up from the original Hyrule Warriors.  With inspiration from Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity shows much detail moves, effects, and larger enemy battles.  From the trailer alone, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity looks more like The Legend of Zelda universe than a Dynasty Warriors game.  With that said, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes an interesting turn in the series.

According to Nintendo’s official YouTube page under the video Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – A Story 100 Years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Yosuke Hayashi who’s the Producer of Hyrule Warriors at Koei Tecmo Games expresses that “what makes this game different is that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will help players understand what happens before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” (4:424:53).  Essentially, this means that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  This news alone is huge. Gamers who play Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will see more about what happens prior to Breath of the Wild.  Granted, we don’t know a whole lot about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.  However, from what we see, this new Hyrule Warrior has so much to bring to The Legend of Zelda franchise.

With All of This News, This Franchise Will Have Fun and Engaging Content Soon

In this review, we’ve thoroughly analyze what this mini Nintendo direct has to offer.  Firstly, this direct reveals more information about the sequel to Breath of the Wild.  While it’s still in production, the production team needs more time to give an update.  However, this mini direct shows a new game.  This new game is Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.  From what we see, this new Hyrule Warrior’s game has so much to offer.  Both in terms of gameplay and lore of The Legend of Zelda franchise.  While we know this information now, there’s no doubt that gamers will receive news soon.
