Today, April 2, 2020 Naughty Dog came out with a statement about another delay of The Last of Us Part 2. According to Naughty Dog’s official Twitter post, Naughty Dog calmingly explains that “this incredibly difficult decision was made due to the current state of the world will affect how everyone plays this game” (1). Essentially, this means that Naughty Dog made the decision to wait on releasing The Last of Us Part 2 until the COVID-19 is under control. Undoubtedly, this decision was incredibly hard for the company to do. The Last of Us Part 2 was first announced on December 3, 2016. This is a project that Naughty Dog has been working on for almost four years. As such, Naughty Dog has been pushing the release date of this game further back. Honestly, this is up to the developers to make it so that their project is ready.
Without a doubt, pushing back the release date was incredibly hard for Naughty Dog to do. Particularly with how many times this company has move the release date of The Last of Us Part 2. Rest assure, I’m not blaming Naughty Dog for the change in the release date. If anything, the reason for this delay makes complete sense. Due to the current state of our world with the Coronavirus. Not only is Naughty Dog thinking about their audiences but also their creators.
Despite the Backlash, this News Means that Naughty Dog Cares about the Well-Being of Their Audiences and Creators
Extremely sad to deliver this news to y’all. Ultimately, the situation is out of our control. We hope you understand. Stay safe out there. ❤️ https://t.co/fqvp6sraX6

With this new post, Naughty Dog shows that they care about not only their audience but also their crew. So many people are significantly affected by COVID-19. People have lost their job and most are under lockdown during this pandemic. Therefore, not many individuals are not in the best place to purchase videogames. Instead of rushing this game out, Naughty Dog takes a minute to think about their audience. For some, this might sound greedy. Although, that’s not what’s going on. They want to make sure that everyone can experience this game. Which makes a ton of sense. Especially since many medical specialists are stating that everything is still under lockdown until the end of April. Not only this but The Last of Us was such a massive success and has a huge fan dedication. So, Naughty Dog wants to ensure that everyone can play this new masterpiece.
Naughty Dog is also concerned about crew too. The fact that Naughty Dog was still working on this project even in the mix of a global pandemic says something. According to Naughty Dog’s official Twitter post, Naughty Dog states the fact that “audience can rest easy that The Last of Us Part 2 is close to completion” (1). Naughty Dog is assuring its audience that this game is almost done. However, this means that Naughty Dog will be putting their employees at risk. So, it only makes sense that Naughty Dog would protect their crew. Alas, many gamers don’t feel the same way. When Naughty Dog first made the announcement, many fans were furious. So much to the point of asking Naughty Dog to cancel the game altogether. Instead of criticizing their decision, look at who Naughty Dog is thinking of. Which is its crew and audience.
While this News Isn’t the Best, It’s Safe to Say that Naughty Dog Knows What They’re Doing for The Last of Us Part 2
In this review, we’ve taken a look at what this news of The Last of Us Part 2 delay means. Firstly, we analyze the post itself. While not the best news, this means that Naughty Dog is taking measures to ensure all audiences can play this game. Many might think that this decision is incredibly selfish. However, this isn’t the case at all. Our world is currently facing a wide pandemic like no one has ever seen before. This leads us to the next point we examine further. The fact that Naughty Dog is also considerate about their employees. Since this game isn’t complete, this means that the Naughty Dog’s crew has to work. As a result, they are at risk to getting COVID-19. Therefore, Naughty Dog is thinking of the safety of audiences and employees.
Now, I know why many are worried since Naughty Dog hasn’t set a new release date. To be fair, this partially has to do with the state of the world we’re in. No one knows for sure how long this pandemic will go on for. So, it makes sense that Naughty Dog would hold on setting a release date. Since no one knows what is going to happen within the next few months. Undoubtedly, Naughty Dog will keep audiences up to date on The Last of Us Part 2. For the time being, we’re going to have to wait to see what happens next.
