It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the death of Nipsey Hussle. He passed in front of his south L.A clothing store on March 31st, 2019. It still hurts to even think about it. It was a loss, so many of us felt deeply. His music came to us from a place we could understand. He knew what it was like to go from nothing, have all odds thrown at him, and fight for what he earned.
Nipsey knew what it was like to go from nothing, have all odds thrown at him, and fight for what he earned.
We connected to his music because we could relate to his message about what is working ton achieve. Nipsey regularly preached about running our lives for ourselves and how to build for our tribe. From running the hood to owning it. He taught whoever would listen, how to earn their own. Honestly, even writing this article is tough. Such a pure light was abruptly taken away from us on that day. We miss Nipsey Hussle’s beautiful soul.
No one misses him more than his longtime partner Lauren London, who reached out on this first anniversary, with words that tugged at the scars his death left on us all. Our hearts go out to her! London, posted “Time is deceptive,” on her Instagram account. “The pain is as heavy today as it was a year ago. God knows I would give anything to see you again. I stand strong because of you,” she continued:
“Because I know you wouldn’t have it any other way. I recall every late-night conversation we had about resilience and fear. You were my greatest teacher, and you are still with us in spirit. Prayers have kept me together. The kids keep me going, and God’s Grace and Mercy have carried me this far,” she wrote. “I promise I will make you proud. I promise to apply everything you taught me.”
Oh, Nipsey, we will always miss you! The marathon continues.
