GameFreak Suddenly Drops a New Pokémon Sword and Shield Trailer
Over the past month, fans have been speculating about the Galar region. With the trailer that GameFreak reveals on July 8, 2019, the excitement from fans including myself began to rise. From all the new information GameFreak reveals, it’s no surprise that excitement for these games rose even higher. However, GameFreak hadn’t reveal any news regarding Pokémon Sword and Shield. Many fans were starting to wonder what more information could be reveal next. Without any warning at all, GameFreak posts a new Pokémon Sword and Shield video on August 8, 2019. Within this new trailer as well as the Japanese trailer, there’s so much information GameFreak reveals about the Galar region. In this review, we’re examining how the newest Pokémon Sword and Shield trailer expands the Galar region with new Pokémon, new characters, and features.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Reveals New Pokémon
One of the exciting things about this trailer is the reveal of new Pokémon. Without a doubt, this is the most exciting time for fans of Pokémon. As fans, we speculate what the new Pokémon are in a region. In fact, some fans go so far as to create designs for speculations of new Pokémon. As a result, fans become extremely attach to certain new Pokémon when they reveal. With the new trailer, fans receive surprise news. Some of the Pokémon reveal are brand new Pokémon. However, some of them are region base Pokémon name Galarian Pokémon. In this section we’re going to be discussing the Galarian Pokémon. In addition, we’re going to look at the brand-new Pokémon reveal for Pokémon Sword and Shield.
New Galarian Forms Reveal in Pokémon Sword and Shield Trailer
During the trailer, Galarian Form was the first information the trailer reveals. Essentially, Galarian Forms are the same thing as Alolan Forms. For those who aren’t aware, Alolan Forms are region variants of different Pokémon. In the same way, Galarian Forms are region variants for the Galar region. Having this element reveal is amazing. This is due to the fact that other Pokémon can have Galarian Forms. With more than eight hundred Pokémon, the amount of possibilities for Galarian Forms is huge. Additionally, this raises so many questions as to which generations of Pokémon can get Galarian Forms. In the Alolan region, the focus on Alolan Forms were Pokémon from the Kanto region. With that said, the Galarian Forms have reveal forms for Pokémon outside of the Kato region. In total, this trailer reveals tree new Galarian Forms. These Pokémon include Galarian Weezing, Galarian Zigzagoon, and Galarian Linoone.
Introducing Galarian Weezing – The Top Hat, Unique Typing Pokémon
The first Pokémon we’re going to be looking at is Galarian Weezing. In fact, this is one of the first Pokémon that the trailer reveals. From what we see in the trailer, Galarian Weezing has a mustache. Additionally, Galarian Weezing has a top hat with smoke rising from the top. Without a doubt, this design is a perfect representation of the Galar region. The reason for this is the fact that the Galar region is base on the United Kingdom. One of the interesting factors about Galarian Weezing is its typing. The typing of this Pokémon is Poison and Fairy. Up to this point, no other Pokémon has this typing. Which brings up another really good point. Does this mean that we’ll see a Galarian Koffing? Only time will tell if we will get another form. The next Galarian Form Pokémon the audience gets introduce to is Galarian Zigzagoon.
Galarian Zigzagoon – The Rockstar Pokémon
The next Pokémon the audience gets introduce to is Galarian Zigzagoon. At first glance, I do see one small problem. Galarian Zigzagoon is a Normal and Dark type. Unfortunately, Alolan Rattata as well as Alolan Raticate have this typing. Both of these Pokémon are everywhere in the Alolan region. I’m not going to lie, it’s a little disappointing that Galarian Zigzagoon is Normal and Dark. With that said, that’s really the only compliant I have about this Pokémon. The design of Galarian Zigzagoon is unique. Generally, with Zigzagoon, the design is to emulate a racoon with a dull design. Whereas Galarian Zigzagoon has striking coloration with unique star markings on its mask. Honestly, I could see this Pokémon with some trainers like Bikers as well as Rockers for instance. What’s even more interesting is that Zigzagoon’s evolution Linoone receives a Galarian Form as well in Galar region.
Galarian Linoone – The Dark, Mongoose Pokémon
Linoone receives a Galarian Form as well. The design is very similar to regular Linoone. Except, Galarian Linoone has different fur and eye color. In fact, Galarian Linoone and Zigzagoon share the same color pallet. Linoone’s fur is black and white with a star pattern on its mask. As for the eyes, Galarian Linoone’s eyes are red. One of the things that is unique about Galarian Linoone is the extra padding on its paws. Personally, I wonder what different moves Galarian Linoone is going to receive. With the introduction of Galarian Linoone, this raises a lot of excitement. GameFreak is giving other Pokemon a new form as well. Because of this reveal, fans have begun to speculate if other Pokemon will receive Galarian Forms as well. Just as the trailer reveals new Galarian Form, brand new Pokemon reveal themselves too.
New Trailer Reveals New Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield
One of the exciting things that this trailer reveals is brand new Pokémon. While having different forms of Pokémon is cool, brand new Pokémon is what excites a lot of fans. When GameFreak announces a new region, fans speculate what the new Pokémon are going to be. New Pokémon is vital for introducing fans of Pokémon what the region is like. For instance, Pokémon within the Kalos region are more elegant like Sylveon and Meowstic. Having these kinds of designs gives a perspective of what the region is like. Since the Galar region is set in the United Kingdom, there’s a ton of inspirations that GameFreak can use. From the fans grasping onto the concept of Wooloo, seeing new Pokémon in this region really excites me. The newest trailer releases two new Pokémon to the Galar region. These Pokémon include Obstagoon as well as Morpeko.
The Evolution of Galarian Linoone, Obstagoon
Surprisingly, the Galarian Zigzagoon line gains another evolution. This Pokémon’s name is Obstagoon. Obstagoon still has the slick form from Galarian Linoone. Additionally, Obstagoon retains the color pallet of black and white. With that said, this Pokémon is completely different from its previous evolutions. For one thing, Obstagoon stands on two feet. The other significant change I see is the grey fur around its arms, feet, and torso. Maybe this is a symbol of someone that looks intimidating. Regardless, this Pokémon is a huge reveal. This is due to the fact that Obstagoon is an evolution off of a form Pokémon. Previous to this reveal, this type of evolution hasn’t been done before. As a result, this makes a ton of fans wondering if more Galarian Forms are going to get their own evolution. Within this trailer, there’s one more Pokemon name Morpeko that is found within the Galar region.
The Dual Face Pokémon, Morpeko
A unique Pokémon reveals itself during the trailer. This Pokémon’s name is Morpeko. At first glance, Morpeko looks like a Pikachu clone. For those who are unaware, every generation has a mouse type Pokémon. More specifically, these mouse Pokémon are electric type. For example, in the Hoenn region, there are two electric mouse Pokémon name Minun and Plusle. However, Morpeko has a unique twist. In the new Pokémon Sword and Shield trailer that’s on The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel, the trailer explains that “a new move specifically for Morpeko gives it a special ability” (1:08). This new move gives Morpeko the opportunity to change its typing. In fact, Morpeko can change from an Electric to a Dark type Pokémon. This news brings so much excitement to fans. Another key element that this trailer reveals is more rivals in the Galar region.
New Rivals Appear in Pokémon Sword and Shield
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, there’s a growing number of rivals appearing in this game. This element isn’t a surprise for the series. As a matter of fact, Pokémon X has four different rivals. With that said, three out of the four rivals in that game aren’t receive well within the Pokémon community. This is due to the fact that those three rivals were trying to be more like your friend than rival. In the earlier games of Pokémon, rivals were individuals that you strive to defeat. The two individuals that come to mind are Blue and Silver from the first two Pokémon games. It should be noted however that Blue’s name is actually Green as it states in the Pokémon Manga. Regardless of the translation errors, this trailer reveals two intimidating rivals that could possibly pose a threat to the player. These two new rivals include Bede and Marnie.
Rival Number Two in Pokémon Sword and Shield is Bede
The first rival the audience gets introduce to in the trailer is Bede. Bede has blonde hair and a purple trench coat. Interestingly enough, he has a coy smile on his face. I don’t know if GameFreak is trying to emulate something like Blue would do. One thing that is noticeable about Bede is the design on this jacket. More specifically, the design on the back of his jacket. Does that symbol mean anything? During the trailer, we did get a glance at what looks like the evil team of the region. We will discuss the evil team later in the review. Personally, I hope that Bede is a trainer that will give the player a challenge. Recently, Pokémon has been throwing challenges at players to make the games much more difficult. With this said, Marnie shows just as much fire power as Bede for the player’s journey.
The Gothic Yet Intelligent Rival, Marnie
Another interesting character that Pokémon Sword and Shield reveals is Marnie. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoy Marnie design. Her color pallet is easy on the eyes. While Marnie may wear a lot of black, she does have other colors on her. From what we see in the trailer, Marnie seems to be a cool as well as collective trainer. Additionally, we see in the trailer that “she has a partner Pokémon Morpeko” (1:27). With that said, I honestly want to know more about her. Is she good or evil? There are so many questions that I have for this particular character. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind not knowing information until Pokémon Sword and Shield are release. Then the audience will be surprise as they play through the mainstream story. One of the reasons why I have so many questions is due to the fact that this trailer reveals the newest evil team.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Reveals a New Evil Team
Within every Pokémon game, there’s an evil organization. This evil organization creates story progression as well as providing challenges to the player. In a Pokémon game, the player runs into grunts or members of the evil team. Eventually, the player beats the team by defeating the organization’s boss. Some of these bosses include Giovanni or Cyrus for instance. One of the things that I personally love about evil teams is the intimidation. For instance, I love Team Rocket. They do such an amazing job showing off that they don’t mess around. A good, evil team should show that they are willing to get the work done regardless of the cost. In this new trailer, there’s another evil team reveal. However, the way that this team reveals itself makes it not believable that they’re in fact the evil team. This new “evil team” is Team Yell.
Team Yell Establishes as the New Evil Team
As of right now, Team Yell has two types of grunts. First, there’s the grunt on the left. They have a poster that they wave over their heads. On the other hand, the second type of grunt the trailer reveals is on the right. This grunt has a large horn that more than likely causes a lot of noise. This image as well as the credit belongs to Pokémon, Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and GAME FREAK Inc. The image is on Pokémon’s official website under the title “Meet Team Yell”.
Team Yell is the newest evil team to join the Pokémon franchise. Honestly, I don’t like the concept of Team Yell. Team Yell is a fan base for Marnie. However, I will give Team Yell the benefit of the doubt. This is due to the fact that we don’t know a lot of information about this team. Was this team created by Marnie? There’s a lot of questions that this trailer doesn’t explain. From what we see in the trailer from The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel, “one of the grunts is holding a poster while the other grunt has a horn” (1:50). At the current moment, I don’t have a high hope for Team Yell. I might give them a chance when GameFreak reveals more information. While the trailer reveals a new evil team, the Japanese trailer reveals a new feature for Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Pokémon Trailer Reveals New Features in Pokémon Sword and Shield
Within a new Pokémon game, GameFreak adds in new features. More importantly, these new features give fans a new experience. Some of these new features can dramatically change the outlook of the game. A perfect example of this is in Pokémon Black and White, players having access to using TM moves on more than one Pokémon. Essentially, these new features are to change how the player plays a Pokemon game. What’s interesting about this new feature is the fact that it wasn’t reveal in the English trailer. In fact, the newest feature to the Pokémon franchise reveals itself in the Japanese trailer. After the reveal, GameFreak reveals in English on the official Pokemon website about this new feature. If you didn’t watch the Japanese trailer, this information might be brand new. This new feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield is Poké Job.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Introduces Poké Jobs
One of the new features we see is the PokéJobs. This feature looks like another version of the Poké Pelago. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, the Poke Pelago was a mini game area. In this area, the player could do a number of things with the Pokémon in their PC boxes. From what we see in the Japanese trailer from the Japanese Pokémon official YouTube channel, “there’s a variety of missions that send Pokémon off on adventures” (1:42 – 1:51). This is good for various Pokémon due to the fact that they can do activities for the player. Much like the Poké Pelago, the Pokémon seem to gain experience. Honestly, I want to know more information about this feature. I love the Poké Pelago so, I was really excited when GameFreak reveals this information. Hopefully, GameFreak will reveal other new features for Pokémon Sword and Shield in the future.
Pokémon Sword and Shield News is Important in the Months to Come
In this review, we’ve examine how the newest Pokémon Sword and Shield trailer expands the Galar region. Firstly, we analyze the new Pokémon announcements. In fact, this trailer reveals both new Pokémon as well as the Galarian Form Pokémon. In addition, we examine the new rivals coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield. Both of them hopefully will pose a threat to the player. Team Yell reveals themselves as the new evil team. While the reveal isn’t great, there’s still more information that we’ll need to learn more about this evil team. Last but certainly not least, we analyze the new feature of Poké Jobs. Similar to the Poké Pelago, trainers will be able to send their Pokémon off on missions. With the information that got, my excitement is high as we learn more about the Galar region. I’m hopeful to see what GameFreak will reveal in the months to come.
