PlayStation Has Had a PlayStation State of Play in Several Months

Within the video game industry, there are various press conferences throughout the year.  In order to let the general audience as well as investors what their company is up to.  Most of the time, major press conferences happen within June during E3.  On the other hand, many companies do presentations in the beginning part of the year.  In the hope to give information to investors and audiences on upcoming projects.  Plus, many of the developers don’t post new trailers until these events.  Which makes the excitement so much larger.  Actually, Nintendo did their own Nintendo Direct last week.  This Nintendo Direct covers a lot of various games coming to the Nintendo Switch.  Then on February 25, 2021, PlayStation came out with their own PlayStation State of Play.  In order to let everyone, know about various games coming to the PlayStation 4 and 5.

What updates are we going to get? Are there going to be a new game announcements in this State of Play? Let’s find out together. In this review, we’re analyzing the newest PlayStation State of Play by examining all of the updates as well as announcements.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time Makes Its Way Onto the PlayStation 5

Firstly, let’s take a look at the first game this PlayStation State of Play shows. The first game this press conference shows is Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time coming to the PlayStation 5.  Now, this isn’t anything new.  Usually, there are games that are put on the new as well as the current consoles.  As not everyone has the new system yet.  What makes this game different is not only the graphics but the lack of long loading screens.  Easily, this game has to be at sixty frames per second which is insane.  With the sixty frames per second, this makes the loading screens incredibly fast.  From what we can see in this trailer, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time looks like a chaotic and fun time.

New, as well as old fans, will love this game for various reasons.  New fans will love this game for the fast-paced gameplay and the colorful world.  On the other hand, returning fans will love being able to see Crash and friends in sixty frames with more immersive levels.  After this trailer, the PlayStation State of Play showcases another familiar game in Returnal.

PlayStation State of Play Reveals a Brand New Gameplay Trailer for Returnal

The next game this PlayStation State of Play discusses is Returnal.  Previously, I made my own thoughts about Returnal in my June PlayStation 5 press conference review.  To be honest, I thought the game looks extremely interesting.  At first, I thought it was the Alien series.  As this series has made several very well done video games.  However, we hadn’t gotten any in-game trailers.  Well, that’s all about to change.  In this trailer, audiences get to see how this game functions.  Returnal has fast pace action in addition to a unique death fashion.  From what we see in this trailer, Returnal shows that death changes the game.  If the player dies, Saline as well as the players see that the world is different from the last time.

Which gives this game a ton of replayability as different deaths give the player a new few on the world itself.  Unquestionably, that information alone is huge.  As this news gives players more options to play in addition to getting other players to talk about their own experience.  Which is huge as no person is going to have the same playthrough or experience.  As this game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, it would make sense for PlayStation to spend a lot of time on this game.  Without a doubt, this trailer brought much more hype to Returnal with actual gameplay footage.  After this trailer, Knock Out City smashes onto the PlayStation 4.

Knock Out City Rolls Out Onto the PlayStation State of Play

This PlayStation State of Play announces Knock Out City coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.   Last week, I made an article about how Knock Out Play is coming to the Nintendo Switch.  Well, the chaotic multiplayer dodgeball game is also coming to the PlayStation 4 as well as PlayStation 5.  Now, this announcement wasn’t too surprising. As these kinds of multiplayer games are on various platforms.  In order to give players, the optimal opportunity to play their game.  Regardless, Knock Out City is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.  What makes this trailer different is we actually get to see what this game is about.  From what we see in the trailer, Knock Out City is a multiplayer game of dodgeball with some crazy tricks.

Some of these tricks that we see in this trailer include trick shots, teamwork moves, and a whole bunch more fun and chaotic tricks.  Honestly, this game looks like a lot of fun.  I’m glad that gamers were able to see what this game has to offer.  Especially since many gamers saw this game last week with the Nintendo Direct.  With that said, this PlayStation State of Play announces another new game name Sifu.

PlayStation State of Play Brings an Indie Fighting Game, Sifu

The next game that this PlayStation State of Play goes into is Sifu.  Now, Sifu looks like a fighting combat game.  The teaser trailer that we see doesn’t tell a lot of the game.  With that, the teaser trailer gives enough information to make the audience wanting more information.  Undoubtedly, Sifu is an indie game.  Now, this isn’t a bad thing by any means.  If anything, this teaser trailer of Sifu shows that the PlayStation 5 is welcoming to indie developers.  Much like Nintendo is with the Nintendo Switch.  What makes this game incredibly interesting is the art style.  The art style is semi-cartoony. Who anyone who isn’t aware, a semi-cartoony art style is where the art has realistic characteristics with still having the cartoon style.

Another interesting factor about this game is the character.  At the moment, we don’t know their name.  My guess is that the main character’s name is Sifu.  With that, the character gets hit and they grow facial hair.  Almost like Sifu is unlocking a hidden power or something like that.  Which makes this story even more interesting.  Hopefully, PlayStation will release more information about this particular game in the future.  Much like wanting to learn more about Sifu, the PlayStation State of Play goes into more information about Solar Ash.

Solar Ash Shows Fast As Well As Engaging Content Within the PlayStation State of Play

Right after the reveal of Sifu, this PlayStation State of Play goes directly into Solar Ash.  Previously, Solar Ash was talked about several times.  However, the trailers didn’t really go into a lot of this game.  Rest assures, this trailer gives much more story explanation.  Solar Ash follows a traveler as she travels to save her world.  One thing that is incredibly interesting about this game is the gameplay.  The gameplay within Solar Ash is incredibly fast. Now, this game doesn’t look like a rail game. Essentially, a rail game is where a game goes on one linear pathway with no choice of exploration.  If anything, Solar Ash looks like the player will be able to explore more about the world their in.

Even within this trailer, we get to see a mini section of a potential boss fight.  Even with that boss fight, this game looks incredibly fun. I’m glad that we got to see this game more in just teaser trailers.  Solar Ash looks like a fun fast pace game with a deep story.  Speaking of deep story, another game that this PlayStation State of Play reveals is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach Brings More Nightmares to FNAF Fans

Onto the next game that this PlayStation State of Play is a highly anticipated game, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.   Up to this point, Five Nights at Freddy’s has been accessible through mobile and PC. So, being able to see this once indie game being on an HD console is huge.  In fact, being able to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s game in sixty frames per second is insane.  Anyways, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach breaks all of the barriers of what a typical Five Nights at Freddy’s can be.  Firstly, the player gets to wander around the establishment.  This has never been done before.  Normally, the player is in one room trying to keep the animatronics out of one room.  This style of gameplay has never changed up until now.

From what we can see in this trailer, the player can not only walk around but the animatronics follow the player.  So now, the player has to worry about the animatronics sneaking up behind you or just straight up charging the player.  Now, this is the first gameplay trailer we get to see.  So, we don’t know a lot of answers that this trailer raises.  To be honest, this game has to be the most ambitious project Five Nights at Freddy’s has ever done.  Another franchise that is doing an ambitious project is Oldworld: SoulStorm.

Oldworld: SoulStorm Receives a Massive Update With a New Gameplay Trailer

Following the new trailer of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, Oldworld: SoulStorm receives a new gameplay trailer.  Up to this point, we’ve only seen theatrical trailers for this game.  As someone who’s never played this series, I personally had no idea what this game was about.  However, this trailer fixes a lot of confusion many new players of the series may have.  From what we see in this trailer, Abe is back trying to help bring freedom to his people.  In addition to a story insight, the audience also gets to see a more in-depth view of gameplay.  Abe has several abilities that can help him as well as his followers to safety.  The amount of detail this game has to challenge the player to think is incredibly smart.

Instead of the player just rushing into combat without any thought.  I feel like if players did this, death will be immediate. Honestly, Oldworld: SoulStorm looks incredibly fun even for someone who has never played this game.  While fans of this series can be able to witness a new game within the Oldworld series.  Another game that looks incredibly fun is Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

PlayStation State of Play Reveals a Top-Notch Trailer of Kena: Bridge of Spirits

One of the games that receive a time to shine is Kena: Bridge of Spirits.  From its debut trailer back in June, Kena: Bridge of Spirits was a game that caught so many gamers attention.  Rest assured, this newest trailer we got doesn’t pull down the hype at all.  In fact, this newest trailer of Keno: Bridge of Spirits will undoubtedly bring more excitement to this game.  From what we see in this new trailer, Keno is a spirit guide who helps spirits through their issues.  From the amazing story, we get to see fantastic combat.  The combat within Keno: Bridge of Spirits is fast yet beautiful.  There wasn’t any time within the gameplay trailer where it seems to not fit within the moment.

If anything, every time this game releases news raises people’s excitement.  Keno: Bridge of Spirits will undoubtedly be on the nomination list for Game of Year in several video game award shows.  Another game that this PlayStation State of Play that gamers should keep an eye on is Deathloop.

Deathloop Brings a New Narrative to the Typical First Person Shooter Genre

After the gameplay trailer of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, the PlayStation State of Play gives another trailer for Deathloop.  In June, this game made its announcement loud at the previous PlayStation live stream.  Deathloop follows a group of assassins as they go around taking down different targets.  What makes this trailer unique is the unique feature of dying.  Much like Returnal, Deathloop has a unique way of dealing with dying.  From what we see in this trailer, players get the chance to replay missions after they die as they’re on a loop.  This raises several questions as to why this is happening.  With that, the trailer that we see shows enough for what the audience needs with leaving questions.  Deathloop looks like a game with a deep story as well as fun gameplay.  This game is a first-person shooter with elements of stealth.

Which means that players will have to think about how they’re going to take down their targets.  To be honest, Deathloop looks incredibly fun with an incredibly deep story.  This game is another one to keep an eye on.  Actually, another game that players should keep an eye on is the last game, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake – Intergate Confirms New Final Fantasy VII Content Coming to the PlayStation 5

Finally, let’s take a look at the last announcement this PlayStation State of Play gives.  After the gameplay trailer of Deathloop, we get the surprise of two trailers.  Firstly, we see that Final Fantasy VII: Remake – Intergrade is coming to the PlayStation 5. Then, we get a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Remake coming to the PlayStation 5.  Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy VII: Remake did incredibly well.  With winning a ton of awards, this remake struck a cord with gamers. Effectively showing companies as well as gamers the true potential behind what a remake can be.  As a result, this game is not only getting new content but a full version on the PlayStation 5.  First, let’s take a look at Final Fantasy VII: Remake – Intergrade.  Essentially, Intergrade follows another story within the story of Final Fantasy VII.

Cloud is off doing his mission and this story feels like its own separate story.  Which is awesome as this brings more content to Final Fantasy VII: Remake. The characters that we get introduced to are all really fun.  Now, I don’t know if these character are from other Final Fantasy games.  I’m not entirely sure.  However, a new cast of characters are coming in to help Barret and Tifa. Being able to have new content with Final Fantasy VII: Remake is huge. Along with being able  to have Final Fantasy VII: Remake on the PlayStation 5.  For anyone who’s played this game knows it was meant for the PlayStation 5.  With stunning graphics to fast pace gameplay, Final Fantasy VII: Remake looks like it was made for the PlayStation 5.  Which is why this PlayStation State of Play saving the best for last.

This PlayStation State of Play May Have Been Lacking But, More is Coming to the PlayStation Consoles

In this review, we took a look at what announcements the PlayStation State of Play brings to the PlayStation 4 and 5.  Safe to say, this press conference gave some really good announcements in addition to updates.   While this State of Play had good announcements, I feel like it could have been longer.  Now, there could be plenty of reasons why PlayStation didn’t have more trailers or updates to give.  Currently, we still live in a pandemic.  Possibly, other video game production companies are hard at work with projects.  So much so that they don’t believe there’s anything to show.  That would be perfectly understandable.  By no means was this PlayStation State of Play bad.  If anything, this press conference made me want to see what else PlayStation has on its back.

This PlayStation State of Play may not have had a lot of different trailers. Yet, it was still awesome to see what is coming to the PlayStation 5.
